Students will learn to:

Design and create Texture Pages for low-poly count models, including jointed and skinned characters. Learn about Texture Pages and the reason games look 'that way'. What to do in PhotoShop and what not to do. What 4bit, 8bit and 24bit means to a texture artist and the demands of in game textures. Produce amazing results with restricted palettes. Create textures for games. Platform considerations: Playstation, Dreamcast and PC.

Student skills required:

Some familiarity with Windows or Macintosh. An understanding of 3D and 2D graphics packages like PhotoShop or PaintShop Pro would be beneficial, although not essential. You should have a wide experience of playing games and a burning desire to be part of this exciting and growing market sector.

Trainer to student ratios:

Normally three to one but no more than eight trainees in any one class.

Objectives:

Training is based on industrial standards. Students will acquire an insight into this unique area of 2D / 3D and its hardware specific considerations - these are 3D Studio Max and PhotoShop skills for the real world. Teamwork and creativity is encouraged. Discover variations between games for PC, PlayStation and Dreamcast.

Students completing this course will be ideally placed to proceed to:
Video Games / Product Design / Video and TV / Character Animation
A certificate of attendance will be supplied on completion of this course.
